Delta Epsilon Mu, Inc. is the nation’s premier Pre-Health Professional Co-Ed Fraternity. The Active and Alumni Membership strives toward “helping people, together” by upholding the Creed and Mission Statement of the Fraternity. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, our Chapters and affiliates contribute philanthropically and through community service, dedicating our lives to the service of others. This Fraternity upholds the standards of academic excellence, professionalism, and integrity in all endeavors.

What does “pre-health” mean?

“Pre-health” is a term used to refer to all tracks of undergraduate education that prepare students for one of the many pre-health based professions. These professions include medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, psychology, physician assistant, physical therapy, research, and all other fields with focus in health.

“Pre-med” is a term used to refer specifically to the track of undergraduate education that prepares students for a profession in medicine, either as an MD or DO. Delta Epsilon Mu, Inc. is inclusive of all health fields and uses the term “pre-health” for this reason.

Is Delta Epsilon Mu a live-in/housing co-ed Fraternity?

All Delta Epsilon Mu Chapters across the nation function like a University Club (Registered Student Organization), and thus do not require or provide housing.

What is the difference between Professional and Social Greek Organizations?

Accepted Answer

Professional Greek Organizations (PGOs) have primary focus in uniting students of similar professional endeavors, no matter the undergraduate track they are on at the time of affiliation. Social Greek Organizations, more commonly called Greek Lettered Organizations (GLOs) in general, have primary focus in uniting students of similar backgrounds, no matter their professional calling. Professional and Social organizations have many areas of overlap and both provide different networks for their affiliates.

Accepted Answer

Delta Epsilon Mu, Inc. has a strict anti-hazing policy and does not condone any acts of hazing committed by affiliates or other involved entities. All Chapters and Members of Delta Epsilon Mu, Inc. are expected to abide by all hazing laws and regulations enacted by their respective collegiate institutions, Cities, States, and Federal government.

Who can join Delta Epsilon Mu, Inc.?"

Any student registered and attending UW-Seattle is allowed to join. For legal purposes, students must be 18 by the end of Formal Recruitment (typically within the first 3 weeks of Autumn or Spring Quarter - refer to our recruitment page for details).

Unfortunately, per DEM National Guidelines, DEM Alpha Kappa cannot accept UW-Bothell or UW-Tacoma students, as they are not registered at UW-Seattle. However, we encourage students to submit an Expansion Inquiry to DEM National’s Office of Membership if they are interested in starting a chapter at their university. How does one join Delta Epsilon Mu, Inc.?"

All undergraduate students must either attend Formal Recruitment or undergo Expansion. Formal Recruitment is conducted at the discretion of the respective Chapters, under standards and guidance of the National Director of Recruitment. Expansion is conducted under direct oversight of the National Director of Expansion. Affiliation through either avenue is only granted upon completion of Prospective Member Education (PME) and successful initiation into the Fraternity.

Yes, Delta Epsilon Mu, Inc. and its Chapters uphold the responsibility of a selection process with selection criteria in all instances of Formal Recruitment and Expansion. The level of selectivity is at the discretion of the respective Chapters under guidance of the National Director of Recruitment or under the oversight of the National Director of Expansion.

The expected time commitment of an Active Member at a given Chapter is established at the discretion of the respective Chapters, and can range around 10-15 hours weekly. The expected time commitment of a Prospective Member undergoing Expansion is established at the discretion of the National Director of Expansion, and can range around 10-15 hours weekly. Delta Epsilon Mu, Inc. is first and foremost an extracurricular activity, and all students are advised to only seek affiliation if time management and availability permits.

The expected financial commitment of an Active Member at the National-level is established at the discretion of the National Executive Committee. Delta Epsilon Mu, Inc. upholds a standard of minimizing all financial obligations at all levels to ensure minimum financial impact on our students.
